Musician Jokes Abound in Big League Orchestras

It's the professional orchestra's Achilles' heel: the tuxedos and gowns orchestra players wear, coupled with the august-sounding "classical" label of the music they perform, often still give classical musicians an elitist image to live down. But the truth is that classical musicians, as the Los Angeles Times reported recently, know how not to take themselves too seriously - and they have a whole repertoire of musician jokes to prove it. For example, What's the difference between an onion and a viola? No one cries when you cut up a viola. Some of the jokes cut (no pun intended) even deeper. Instrumentalists often size up each other's personalities based on the instruments they play. They claim oboists are neurotic (those unpredictable reeds!), brass players unrefined. The list goes on.
