Pianist Mihaela Ursuleasa Dead at 33

Award-winning, Romanian-born concert pianist Mihaela Ursuleasa was found dead in her Vienna apartment Thursday morning, according to The Guardian. A Vienna police spokeswoman said Ursuleasa's death was believed to have been caused by a cerebral hemorrhage. The pianist had recently cancelled two concerts for health reasons. Ursuleasa won the 1995 Clara Haskil Competition, launching her international career. Her debut recording, Piano & Forte, won an ECHO Klassik award for Solo Recording of the Year (2010). Her second recording, Romanian Rhapsody, was released in 2011. Ursuleasa is survived by a daughter whom ArtsJournal blogger Norman Lebrecht and other media reports indicate is 5, but whom a statement on Ursuleasa's official Web site says is 7. Read more:
