To ________ or not to ____. That is the question facing virtually every classical musician and ensemble working in today's more casual and financially strapped society. The shrine mystique that has surrounded classical music for the last century or so has, like almost everything else, proponents and opponents. Proponents say ornate concert halls and swanky dress aptly reflect the beauty of classical music. Opponents of the shrine mystique argue that dolling up classical music and putting it on a pedestal are antiquated practices alien to a casual modern world. In founding the Raga Dolls, David Osborne aimed to offer performances of classical music free of the concert ritual some say is stuffy.
