Doc Says Classical Music Good Medicine for Hearts

Your mama always told you to eat your veggies, do your homework and practice for your piano lessons. "They're good for you," she said. (Believe me, I was there.) According to a report in the Irish Times, a German researcher has come a step closer to proving what Mama already knew: classical music is good for you. Hans Joachim Trappe says listening to classical music potentially reduces heart rate and blood pressure. Trappe also says that, compared to heavy metal, classical music is a dream:

Heavy metal encourages rage, disappointment and aggressive behaviour while causing both heart rate and blood pressure to increase.

Trappe is currently studying the effect of classical music on breathing rates and stress hormone levels in healthy people. And he's planning a study, "Bach or Beta-Blockers," in which subjects with high blood pressure will be given either beta-blockers or a classical music-listening regimen.
