What Do YOU Want in a Live Classical Music Concert?

Dear Central Ohio, Whether or not you know it, those who run your local classical music organizations brainstorm all the time about what kind of live concert experiences you would most enjoy. We talk about bringing in (and do bring in) world-class artists to perform with our first-rate local orchestras and on our various local classical music concert series. The artists are at the top of the heap, we reason, and we think you will enjoy hearing them play. We talk about repertory. Standard classical repertory seems to go over well with most people, though maybe a little new music, would be a good idea, we hedge, to keep things fresh. We talk about concert venues. Would any one of Columbus' several beautiful theaters serve you best, or would it be better to hold concerts in places that were not specifically designed for classical music performances? We talk about prospective concert dates. We must avoid holidays, of course. We must be ultra sensitive to the OSU term schedule. And we must never, repeat never, schedule a musical event during the OSU-Michigan game. Especially when it's a home game. Much of this is common sense. But some of it is guesswork, mostly because while we talk about what you might want, we don't on a regular basis seem to talk with you about what you do want.
