Dancing Delibes: Unusual Choreography Plucks Up Pizzicato Polka

The beauty of great art, beyond its surface pleasantness, is that like skyscrapers built to give and sway with the fierce winds, it is made to withstand the changes of the times. So it's always intriguing when someone adapts an older piece of art, say a ballet, to present-day sensibilities. That's what choreographer John Neumeier did in his interpretation of Leo Delibes' classic ballet Sylvia. No more ancient mythological frills. Instead, a modern-day story of a woman exploring the space between feminine desire and professional accomplishment. This performance of the Pas de deux from Sylvia is danced by Opera Paris Ballet.
