Celebrating The Marlboro Music Festival on Classical 101

The Marlboro Music Festival is celebrating its 60th anniversary, and Classical 101 is presenting recordings spanning many years of the festival's concerts.  This year's festival runs July 16 to August 14 in Marlboro, Vermont. We'll feature performances from our CD library of past highlights in the afternoons Monday through Friday for the next several weeks, coinciding with the festival in Vermont. Marlboro Music School was founded in 1951 as a retreat where young musicians could collaborate and perform with master musicians each summer in a relaxed rural setting.  It was begun by pianist Rudolf Serkin, violinist Adolf Busch, and others on the site of a former dairy farm, which is now Marlboro College.  Other prominent musicians associated with Marlboro over the years include Pablo Casals, Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, James Levine, Gilbert Kalish, and members of the Guarnieri Quartet.  The current artistic directors are Richard Goode and Mitsuko Uchida.
