A Symphony And A Ballet For Igor Stravinsky's Birthday

Friday evening on Symphony at 7, join me for a birthday tribute to Igor Stravinsky (born on June 17, 1882). This musical giant helped define modernism in the early 20th Century with works such as The Rite of Spring (1913). We'll have two musical offerings by this seminal 20th Century composer, one coming after, and one from just before that pivotal piece of modern ballet. The Symphony in Three Movements, written during the Second World War when Stravinsky was living in The United States: http://youtu.be/p-I10USajcg And we'll have the second of the three great full-length ballet scores, the one just before The Rite of Spring, Petrouchka, about a straw doll that comes to life and falls in love: http://youtu.be/JbWDG3LU4bc I hope you can join me for magic music-making from this master of modernism.
