Columbus's (wonderful) Chamber Music Connection

I had a great time last night hosting a concert given by the young artists of the Chamber Music Connection at the McConnell Performing Arts Center in Worthington. Violist and educator Debbie Price founded this organization 19 years ago. Young artists, from primary grades to college, are mentored by professional musicians, and placed in chamber ensembles, the better to learn and listen to each other in performing chamber music. The Chamber Music Connection has a healthy share of young prize winners and students are regularly featured on From the Top, heard Sundays at 7 pm on Classical 101. Here's the Esperance Trio (Rebekah Lee, violin; Nikita Annenkov, cello and Brook Zhang, piano) performing a bit of Beethoven: [audio src="http://wosu.org/audio/classical/2011/CMCBEETHOVEN.mp3"] Then there's the sublime Quartet Toujours (Heeyeon Chung, violin; Kaho Sugawara, violin; Eva Kennedy, viola and Ruthie Cordray, cello) performing music of Claude Debussy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1U2wNhFsuy8 If you live around Columbus and you love music, grab any chance you have to hear the members of the Chamber Music Connection. They are the artists (and the audiences) of tomorrow.

Christopher Purdy is Classical 101's early morning host, 7-10 a.m. weekdays. He is host and producer of Front Row Center – Classical 101’s weekly celebration of Opera and more – as well as Music in Mid-Ohio, Concerts at Ohio State, and the Columbus Symphony broadcast series. He is the regular pre-concert speaker for Columbus Symphony performances in the Ohio Theater.
