We all know that classical music (or at least some of it) is relaxing and soothing. But one concert took classical's relaxing image to the next level. This is not a new story, but it happened before WOSU's classical music blog launched a couple of years ago. Since it has that timeless quality that only impeccably hilarious stories have, I wanted to share it with you, in case you hadn't seen it already. In 2006, a mattress company installed beds in a Tel Aviv concert hall for a classical music concert there. The audience, I guess, reclined and dozed, slept, drooled, daydreamed - the possibilities are endless - while the music spirited them away to la-la-land. Can you imagine what was on that concert program? Maybe Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty? Or Eric Whitacre's Sleep? Maybe the bed-as-seating concept could catch on in other arenas, like cinemas, church, the workplace or anywhere political candidates are droning on. Yeah, I know. I'm not holding my breath, either.
