Legendary Classical Guitarist Andres Segovia

Spanish classical guitarist Andres Segovia, who was born February 21, 1893, elevated the status of the guitar as a serious instrument for concert music. He played and taught until just a few months before he passed away in 1987 at the age of 94. The legendary artist has influenced and inspired countless guitarists around the world. He once called the guitar "an orchestra in a box," and I was enchanted by that description as I learned to enjoy the classical guitar repertoire (having grown up hearing mostly electric guitar and rock and roll as a kid). I just want to acknowledge this great master by sharing this video of one of the quintessential pieces for classical guitar, Asturias, by Isaac Albeniz: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9efHwnFAkuA Another great contemporary guitarist, John Williams, speaks about one of Segovia's major contributions to classical guitar playing that enabled the guitar to produce so many subtle shades of tones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GY3i8EqYPA
