In a move borrowed from the Metropolitan Opera's playbook, Russia's Bolshoi Ballet will broadcast four ballets in real time in movie theaters around the world, according to the online independent Moscow News. Three hundred theaters in 22 ountries, including the United States, will show the Bolshoi's presentations, beginning Dec. 19 with Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker.  Three other productions also are slated for global transmission: a class concert set to music of Dmitri Shostakovich and Adolphe Adam's Giselle (Jan. 23), Petipa's Don Quixote (March 6) and Léo Delibes' Coppélia (May 29).
