At one time or another, I believe all of us feel as though we could write a song. Maybe you picked out a melody on the piano or wrote some lyrics that are just begging to be put to music. Or possibly, you've already written a few tunes that you just KNOW would sound great if (fill in the blank) would sing them. Your chance is just around the corner, and it doesn't involve being insulted by Simon Cowell. Earlier this year, the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus came to Columbus and gave budding musicians, performers, writers, and others the chance to try their hand at producing a music video. This bus comes equipped with all of the latest video and audio gear, as well as the ability to record "on location" which, in this case, was on the OSU campus. (One of the locally produced videos can be found below.) A new songwriting contest begins today, June 16, and runs through December 15. If you go to the John Lennon Songwriting Contest website, there are details, songwriting tips by the likes of Al Jarreau, and The Veronicas along with entry information. So don't punish yourself on American Idol, put pen to paper and let the judges hear what you have to offer; you just might win! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLPzOr1DhoA
