The Columbus Air Show takes off on Friday at Rickenbacker International Airport, with a headlining demonstration from the United States Navy’s Blue Angels aerial acrobatics flight team.
“They'll be flying their F-18 Super Hornets, six of them in formation, as tight as 18 inches separation, and as fast as 700 miles an hour,” said Herb Gillen, the producer of the event.
Aerial demonstrations at the air show will also include a World War II reenactment, aerial acrobatics and a variety of aircraft demonstrations from the U.S. Navy.
Not all of the action will be in the sky, either. The event will include displays for STEM, the Women Airforce Service Pilots and the Tuskegee Airmen, who were stationed at the Rickenbacker International Airport after their service in World War II.
Gillen also said that guests could even explore the inside of some aircraft and speak to their pilots.
Gillen expects 50,000 people to attend the weekend event. He said that the people at the air show are his favorite part.
“Seeing the looks on the faces, particularly of the kids, just the wonder and amazement of aviation, that inspiration and joy that you see, that's the best part for me,” he said.
The show runs Friday through Sunday. Tickets are still available at ColumbusAirShow.com
