Ann Fisher will retire from daily journalism on Friday, May 26, 2023. The host of All Sides with Ann Fisher joined WOSU Public Media in 2009 and since then has built a strong following through the daily public-affairs talk show designed to touch upon all sides of the issues and events that shape life in central Ohio.
“It’s a bittersweet moment for me as I’ve loved my time and my listeners,” Fisher said. “I am excited to see what’s ahead after more than four decades in daily journalism.”
Fisher worked 30 years in the newspaper business before joining WOSU. She has covered politics, public affairs, culture, media and business over the course of her career.
“Ann believed in fair and balanced coverage and created a sense of community with her guests and listeners,” said Mike Thompson, WOSU’s chief content director for radio. “Our station and its listeners have been fortunate to have Ann as the face and voice of WOSU.”
All Sides with Ann Fisher is central Ohio’s only daily radio news interview program attracting 65,000 listeners each week. It has helped lead WOSU’s coverage of landmark Supreme Court decisions, the COVID-19 pandemic and the George Floyd racial justice protests. Ann and her guests have also helped listeners find a new restaurant, plant their gardens and study the night sky.
Fisher began her career at The Grand Rapids Press, before moving to Ohio in 1987 to join The Blade in Toledo. She later spent nearly a decade in the Columbus bureau covering state government and politics. She joined The Columbus Dispatch in 1998, covering Appalachia before joining the editorial board and then spent six years as an editor and nearly four years as Metro Columnist.
“While I moved to Ohio for work, I stayed because I love central Ohio and its people,” Fisher said.
WOSU will celebrate Fisher’s career and impact prior to her final day on-air and additional details will be announced in the coming months.
