WOSU Classroom Family Summer Camps Bring Families Together To Encourage Meaningful Conversations at Home

COLUMBUS, OHIO, MAY 27, 2021 – WOSU Classroom, the education division of WOSU Public Media, is offering a variety of live virtual Family Summer Camps evenings in June and July to gather families with children ages 3–9 for a variety of interactive, educational and FUN experiences around WOSU and PBS KIDS programming. Everyone in the family is encouraged to join in for hands-on activities, story time and loads of family fun right from a home laptop, smartphone or tablet.

Summer Fun with Mr. J
Ages 4–9 | June 14–17 | 6–7pm
Mr. J – from the popular Drawing with Mr. J series – will provide drawing challenges, stories and fun activities that spark creativity while helping kids develop social and emotional skills.

Coding with Scratch Jr.
Ages 5–8 | June 21–24 | 6–7pm
This camp introduces coding concepts using the PBS KIDS Scratch Jr app, an introductory programming language inspired by the popular Scratch program.

Hero Elementary SuperPowers of Science
Ages 5–8 | June 28–July 1 | 6–7pm
After watching a Hero Elementary episode, use Superpowers of Science to investigate problems with hands-on activities.

Hands-On Science with Cat in the Hat
Ages 3–5 | July 19–22 | 6–7pm
Learn new science vocabulary, explore with hands-on activities using real-world objects, and watch an episode of Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That!

“WOSU Classroom is excited to gather whole families with their young children for interactive and educational hands-on summer camp activities,” said Amy Palermo, chief content director, WOSU Classroom. “The live virtual camps will run evenings in June and July and give entire families – parents, grandparents, family friends and siblings – the opportunity to work with young family members on developing creativity and skills like literacy, scientific thinking and investigating problems, social and emotional reactions, and early computer coding like creating digital animations.”

Camps require advance registration and supplies for completing the simple and fun activities at home. Scholarships are available for those in need. Complete details on the camps, activities, supplies and how to apply for a scholarship are available at wosu.org/camps.
