Ohio State University released its 2026 annual safety report earlier this week.

While several types of crime on Ohio State's campus — including alcohol violations and rape — have dropped, other kinds of crime, including hate crimes and other forms of sexual assault, have increased.

The report shows there were 18 reported hate crimes on and near campus in 2025, while there were 12 in 2024. The report does not describe details of the incidents.

Sexual assault crimes remain a top category of reported crime. Fondling increased by 24% and stalking increased by 15%. Reported rapes decreased from a total of 58 in 2024 to a total of 35 in 2025.

Domestic and dating violence remained roughly the same as last year.

There were only eight arrests for alcohol violations this year, compared to 62 last year. The category has been consistently declining for several years, marking a 94% decrease since 2023. Disciplinary referrals for alcohol violations dropped, however those infractions are the largest category with 456 reported incidents.

Arrests for drug law violations increased from 12 in 2024 to 18 in 2025. Disciplinary referrals remained roughly the same.

Motor vehicle thefts, at 70 reported incidents, and aggravated assaults, at 14 reported incidents, remained roughly the same as last year.

Meanwhile, the report shows zero fire-related injuries in on-campus housing in the past year.

Annual security reports are sent out to students in compliance with the Clery Act, a federal law requiring all colleges and universities to report campus crime data.
