An Ohio State University student died Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a motorist in Weinland Park.
According to Columbus Police, a man driving a Ford Mustang traveling east on King Avenue turned on N. High St., ran a red light and hit two pedestrians on the sidewalk. The car continued into a Kroger parking where it landed on top of an occupied parked car.
The two people on the sidewalk were taken to Wexner Medical Center in critical condition. One of the pedestrians, identified as 21-year-old Sarosh Sheth, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The person inside the parked car was transported in stable condition.
The driver was arrested at the scene of the crash and is currently being held on charges of driving under the influence, according to police.
Ohio State spokesperson Ben Johnson wrote in a statement, “Ohio State is mourning the loss of Sarosh Sheth, a neuroscience major from Warren, who passed away tragically this week. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this extremely difficult time.”
The Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit is still investigating the crash.
