Columbus-based barbecue chain Ray Ray's Hog Pit has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Ray Ray's Hog Pit's parent company Smoke Ring LLC filed its petition in federal bankruptcy court in Columbus on Friday.

The filing says Ray Ray's Hog Pit has total liabilities of $1.2 million and 15 creditors.

First Merchants Bank in Upper Arlington has unsecured claims of close to $600,000.

The filing also lists theft and fraud by a former accounting manager with an unknown loss value.

In November, Ray Ray's Hog Pit closed locations in Linworth, Johnstown and Marion.

Its website still lists four locations as open in Clintonville, Franklinton, Westerville and Granville.

Filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy allows a business to remain in operation while restructuring its finances.
