River Carry Me Home—Thanksgiving with The American Sound
Rivers are special, many even considered sacred. They carry rain from fields and replenish the sea. They’re conduits from one place to another. Some rivers are borders between territories, even between exile and home.

Like rivers, our lives, too, are wandering. And as the 17th-century Japanese wandering poet Matsuo Bashō wrote, the journey itself is home.

River Carry Me Home—Thanksgiving with The American Sound is an hour of uplifting music that reaches the heart of what it means to wander through the world like a river carving its course—and what it means to come home.

Let music by Eric Ewazen, Michael Daugherty and Peter Boyer carry you along on a current of beautiful music inspired by some of America’s great rivers, and works by Aaron Copland and others bring you back home, forever changed.

River Carry Me Home—Thanksgiving with The American Sound airs Thanksgiving Day at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Classical 101.

Shadowglow – Thanksgiving with The American Sound
Nothing feels quite like autumn light—the burnished golds of sun-warmed fields and crackling fires amid the shadows of early dusk.

I call it shadowglow.

Shadowglow – Thanksgiving with The American Sound celebrates the special radiance of autumn and the richness of the holiday in music inspired by the uncanny fire of starlight, the hopeful warmth of luminaria, the lamps of gratitude we light within ourselves, even the golden glow of beloved Thanksgiving treats fresh from the oven
.
Music by Michael Torke, Randall Thompson, Michael Whalen, Kenji Bunch and Craig Hella Johnson will fill the holiday with shimmering nuances of thankfulness and hope.

Shadowglow – Thanksgiving with The American Sound airs Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. and Thanksgiving Day at 3 p.m. on Classical 101.
