The Plaza Hotel at Capitol Square, the former Sheraton Downtown, at 75 E. State St. in Columbus. New owners took over the business in 2023. They're in a dispute now with a staffing agency that once worked with the previous owners.

The one-time owner of a downtown Columbus hotel is facing a federal lawsuit from employment firm Xclusive Staffing.

Ohio Joseph Investments bought the Plaza Hotel Columbus at Capital Square in 2023 for $9.6 million. The owner is counter-suing Xclusive Staffing, which once provided workers for the hotel.

Xclusive Staffing, which is based in Colorado, claims the Ohio Joseph Investments owes the company $130,000.

The staffing company states in its complaint against the hotel that the two companies agreed on terms in late 2023, but the agreement wasn't signed. Xclusive stated it still performed the work and sent in more than 40 invoices, but the hotel owners didn't pay them.

Ohio Joseph Investments claims Xclusive Staffing tried to pressure the hotel's new owners to continue a similar agreement for staffing services used by the former owners.

Ohio Joseph Investments' counterclaim states the staffing company billed for services the hotel owners didn't agree to or want. The company also claims that the staffing company should reimburse it for filing an unreasonable suit against the hotel.

The hotel was listed for sale by auction site Ten-X in January. According to the CoStar Group, which handles press for the auction site, the property sold for $11.2 million on June 17 to Kings Family Services.

The sale has not been logged in the publicly accessible property records offered by the Franklin County auditor.
