We may love having everyone home during the holiday season, but it's just as easy to go a little stir-crazy. Luckily, there are untold riches of holiday music and dance available. Untold until now.

Websites are provided for tickets and more complete information. There’s no reason to stay home this holiday season. You can take the family along or bliss out for yourself. Enjoy!

Ballet Met

The Nutcracker, the world’s most enchanting ballet, was first danced before the Tsar in 1893. George Balanchine’s production for the New York City Ballet made this work a holiday favorite. Thank you, George, but we have Ballet Met and Gerard Charles'
glittering production at the Ohio Theater. December 8-24th.

New Albany Ballet 

New Albany Ballet is gaining a fine reputation in its early years. This season they add a new production of The Nutcracker to their repertoire. Choreography by Jimmy Orrante. Performances December 2-11 at the McCoy Center for the Arts in New Albany.

Columbus Symphony Holiday Pops 

The Columbus Symphony continues its grand holiday tradition with a spectacular holiday show perfect for the entire family! Tony DeSare joins the Symphony for a jazzy take on some holiday classics making this the must-see show to start your holiday off right. Performances at the Ohio Theater on December 2-4.

New Albany Symphony Holiday Spectacular

It’s the “Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and it begins at the McCoy for an afternoon of fun for the whole family. We welcome to the stage the New Albany Symphony Chorus and guest soloist Kim Hopcraft. Luis Biava conducts.

Capital University Christmas Festival

Capital University Conservatory of Music will present its annual Christmas Festival with the Chapel Choir, Choral Union, Cantabile, Consort, and a variety of instrumentalists. This festival is a long-standing holiday tradition enjoyed by the university, its friends, and the greater Columbus community. December 1-4.

The Ohio State University School of Music  

Under new leadership, the School of Music spends its first holiday season in its magnificent new building.

A Charlie Brown Christmas, November 27, 2 pm

Everyone’s favorite holiday classic comes to life in a spectacular new touring production of A Charlie Brown Christmas: Live on Stage. Adapted from Charles M. Schulz’s timeless story, and featuring the music of Vince Guaraldi, A Charlie Brown Christmas: Live on Stage is a present that the whole family can enjoy.

The Hip Hop Nutcracker, December 4, 2 pm

A holiday mash-up for the whole family, The Hip Hop Nutcracker is celebrating its 10th anniversary this season as it returns for another spectacular tour. Directed and choreographed by Jennifer Weber, this contemporary dance spectacle is a re-mixed and re-imagined version of the classic, smashing hip-hop dance and Tchaikovsky’s timeless music together into a heart-stirring and inspirational holiday event.

Christopher Purdy is Classical 101's early morning host, 7-10 a.m. weekdays. He is host and producer of Front Row Center – Classical 101’s weekly celebration of Opera and more – as well as Music in Mid-Ohio, Concerts at Ohio State, and the Columbus Symphony broadcast series. He is the regular pre-concert speaker for Columbus Symphony performances in the Ohio Theater.
