OSU Joins Fight To Keep Air Traffic Control Towers Open

Ohio State University is joining other airports across the country in trying to block the closure of an air-traffic control tower because of automatic cuts in federal spending. The university in Columbus asked a federal court in Washington Monday to stop or delay closing the control tower at Don Scott Field. It's scheduled to close this month or during the first week in May. OSU contends that the Federal Aviation Administration violated its own rules by not conducting a study to determine whether closing the towers would be safe for planes and passengers. Don Scott Field handles more than 70,000 flights a year, with its peak use during Ohio State football weekends and the Memorial Tournament, held in May in nearby Dublin.
