Frank LaRose, Bernie Moreno and Matt Dolan stand behind individual podiums at a Cleveland TV station at the first Republican U.S. Senate debate of 2024.

Primary Election Month is here. Early voting began Wednesday. The big race in Ohio is the GOP primary for the U.S. Senate, with the winner getting to take on Sherrod Brown. University of Cincinnati Political Science Professor David Niven joins the show.

Primary Debate

On Monday, the three Republicans running met on a debate stage in Findlay, which was televised statewide on Spectrum Cable, and the discussion got feisty.

State Senator Matt Dolan reminded his challengers that their stances on illegal immigration have changed.

When talking about the minimum wage, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose got personal.

Businessman Bernie Moreno, who received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump in this race, claims Frank LaRose lied about Trump’s support.

Now it’s the voters' turn, and by the evening of March 19, we’ll know which of those three men will prevail.

Snollygoster of the week

State Representative Justin Pizzulli is facing a primary challenge from fellow Republican Gina Collinsworth. Pizzulli, backed by the Republican House Caucus campaign fund, is running an ad featuring Collinsworth wearing a surgical mask, alleging she supported the COVID shutdown.

Collinsworth clarifies that she wore the mask while visiting her husband in the hospital during his cancer treatments. She explains that while she did not want to wear the mask, she did so to comply with the hospital's mask mandate to see her husband.

The resurgence of mask-related debates is unexpected, especially criticizing those who choose to wear masks.
