OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma agreed last month to pay $4.28 billion to settle lawsuits alleging it helped to create the opioid epidemic.

Nearly half of all U.S. states want a share of that money to pay for programs to address record overdose deaths and a worsening opioid crisis during the pandemic.
