On the Origin of Species, published in 1859 by Charles Darwin, was both criticized and praised and has since become a foundational component of modern biology.  In a book entitled The Book That Changed America: How Darwin's Theory of Evolution Ignited a Nation, author Randall Fuller explores the influence of Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species in 19th-century America.
