Two Akron City council members are calling on Mayor Shammas Malik to fire the officer who fatally shot 15-year-old Jazmir Tucker on Thanksgiving night. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the review of the shooting.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation into the police-involved shooting of a 15-year-old in the city's Sherbondy Hill neighborhood Thursday night.

Walker's family sued the city in 2023, initially requesting $45 million. The $4.85 million will be paid in four installments over the next four years, according to a Monday news release.

Jayland Walker, 25, was killed during a traffic stop on June 27, 2022, after he fired a single bullet from his vehicle, then ran from the officers, according to a state investigation.

Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich requested the charge against Tavion Koonce-Williams be dropped. Koonce-Williams was charged for carrying a fake gun.

A Summit County special grand jury has ruled there was not enough credible evidence to charge the any of the officers with a crime.

Although several state leaders proposed more accountability in Ohio’s law enforcement departments, those measures have not come through.

Community organizers have submitted a list of demands to the mayor's office, including firing and prosecuting the eight officers involved in the shooting.

The sheer number of bullets fired by as many as eight officers has prompted renewed questions from politicians and activists who are criticizing what they view as excessive use of force by police.
