The United States is one of three countries that do not offer some form of parental leave to new parents.

Companies and local governments have stepped up in some cases, but the larger absence of parental leave reflects something about the U.S. commitment to gender equality and the welfare of our families, according to sociologist Gayle Kaufman.

Today on All Sides with Ann Fisher: the value of parental leave and what the absence of parental leave as a national policy says about the U.S.

Guests:

  • Gayle Kaufman, author of Fixing Parental Leave: The Six Month Solution
  • Veronique de Rugy, senior research fellow, Mercatus Center
  • Elizabeth Brown, president pro tempore, Columbus City Council
