We are less than two weeks from Election Day, when Ohio voters will decide whether to enshrine abortion rights into the constitution and whether to legalize recreational cannabis.

As is usually the case with pioneering efforts, Ohio is not the first state to legalize recreational cannabis. We’re barely in the first half, as 23 states have already done so, with Maryland being the latest.

This week, we thought we’d look at who voted for and against legal marijuana in Maryland to get a feel for how Ohio might vote.

The Brookings Institution published a study last month into Maryland’s cannabis politics, and the results are pretty interesting. Turns out that opinions on marijuana do not fall along party lines.

Aaron Klein, a senior fellow in Economic Studies with the Brookings Institute, joins the show.

Snollygoster of the week

The OSU-Michigan football game is about a month away. Both teams are undefeated, and OSU has lost two straight games to Michigan, so the hype is already building.

This week, supporters of legal marijuana are tapping into that rivalry, and perhaps even a little Michigan jealousy. In their first ad, legal marijuana advocates point out how much tax revenue Michigan is making off of Ohio cannabis consumers. Just head over the border to the nearest dispensary and look for the Ohio license plates.
