Ohio State University’s Board of Trustees passed a resolution Thursday that would allow a prompt payment of any settlement with accusers of team doctor Richard Strauss.
Board chair Gary R. Heminger proposed the measure, which would allow him to approve such a settlement by himself, as it may come up before the board’s March meeting.
More than 350 men have joined lawsuits alleging the university knew about and ignored abuse by Strauss, who worked at the school from the 1970s-90s.
This week, some of the plaintiffs asked a judge to end mediation with Ohio State, claiming that officials "refused to engage in productive settlement talks.”
Ohio State officials have publicly apologized to those harmed by Strauss and insisted they are actively pursuing a “monetary resolution.”
Strauss died in 2005.
