Hilliard Teen Pleads No Contest In School Shooting Plot

A Hilliard teenager has pledged no contest to charges of plotting to murder classmates in a mass shooting at Hilliard Davidson High School.

John “Jack” Staley III, 17, was arrested in late 2016 after a student reported overhearing him discussing his plans.

No attack took place.

Staley is charged in adult court with conspiracy to commit murder.

A Franklin County juvenile court judge last year moved the case to adult court after reviewing evidence, including evaluations by two psychologists.

The judge determined the teen was not an appropriate candidate for treatment in the juvenile system, even though the psychologists said he was.

Staley's attorney has said he would be better off getting therapy and treatment available in the juvenile detention system.
