Task force members question police academy programs.

Officials from several Ohio police departments and police training academies are protesting the possibility of closing some of the state's smaller training programs.

Jack Hershey, head of the state community college association, questions whether a one-size-fits all approach to police training would best serve all Ohio communities.

Lance Combs, acting Shelby police chief, said his department relies on the graduates they receive from the academy at North Central Community College.

Officials with training academies at Columbus State, Owens State, Washington State and Wright State were among those who crowded a meeting of a task force looking at possible changes to police training in Ohio.

Attorney General Mike DeWine created the group last year after several fatal police shootings and protests of those shootings in Ohio and nationally.
