The former director of the Ohio State marching band continues to try to clear his name. Jon Waters was fired last month for what OSU called a sexualized band culture that included hazing rituals and lewd nicknames. Speaking on All Sides with Ann Fisher this morning, Waters said he took steps to quell bad behavior, including disciplining and members behind an inappropriate newsletter. "Instead of just leaving it or just saying 'Thou shalt', we had an open conversation with the band. We said 'Look, this is not the way we treat people.'" Waters said much of the bands culture dates back to World War II, and being too heavy handed wouldnt have changed anything and only pushed it underground.
