New Abortion Restrictions Clear State Senate

It could soon be harder for an Ohio minor to get an abortion without her parents' consent. Under a bill approved by the state Senate Tuesday, a judge considering whether to let a girl bypass parental consent requirements would have to ask if she understand the physical and emotional impacts of having an abortion, and also ask if she was coached on how to answer. Supporters say the legislation is needed to rein in judges who frequently give approval, though opponents contend it's a political move. The measure has already passed the state House. The Senate and House must now reconcile their bills before sending a final version to the Governor.
