A contingent of anti-tax conservatives in the Ohio Senate is making it difficult to reach a compromise fix for Ohio's $850 million budget hole.
Conservative Republicans won't support any part of Gov. Ted Strickland's plan to delay the final year of a planned tax cut.
Moderate Republicans tried to appease conservatives Wednesday by including other budget measures that would save the state money in the long run. The compromise also would give Strickland two-thirds of his proposed tax cut delay.
But Strickland says the compromise is irresponsible, and conservatives aren't giving in, either.
That leaves lawmakers deadlocked on any budget fix before Thanksgiving.
