Central Ohio Adds Jobs During Third Quarter

Columbus employers are trying to keep a recession at bay. New figures from the Columbus Chamber of Commerce show central Ohio added 2,100 jobs during the latest three month period even as other regions around the state were losing jobs.

The Chamber says job gains in healthcare and government helped central Ohio beat back a worsening state economy. The chamber says employers added more than 2,000 jobs during the last three months. But, economist Bill Lafayette says transportation companies report a net loss of jobs and he expects the local job market to worsen in coming months. The region's unemployment rate reached 6 percent this quarter after more people resumed their search for work.
