President Bush told supporters at a Columbus fund-raiser today that he's laying the foundation for an Ohio victory and a national re-election victory in the fall of 2004. But he says he's still got a job to do - to keep nation secure,strong, prosperous and free.
Speaking to about 650 supporters, the president touted his work on education, tax relief, and the war on terrorism. He also is pushing his energy bill, which is currently stuck in a Congressional conference committee. Organizers say today's luncheon raised $1.4-million. Tickets were $2,000 apiece.
Outside, two groups of protesters tried to shout each other down from opposite street corners. Many of the anti-Bush protesters held campaign signs for Democratic challenger Howard Dean.
