Concert Halls Go Dark With No San Francisco Symphony Performances

Another major American orchestra is now on strike. The San Francisco Symphony with Michael Tilson Thomas cancelled its East Coast tour last Sunday.  Concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York City, The New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, and The Kennedy Center in Washington, D. C. will be empty just a week after a player's strike was declared last Wednesday. It seems like a sign of the times after another major orchestra continues to be silent since last October, the excellent Minnesota Orchestra.  That group and other fine ensembles continue to have their financial woes as well. I hope some of the difficulties can be resolved so that the current concert season doesn't end missing too many more fine performances and that the coming season may fare better.
