Wynton Marsalis and Eric Clapton Play The Blues Screened Nationwide
Known as much for his jazz playing as for his classical prowess, Wynton Marsalis has spent much of his musical life reaching into other genres to make music. Last April, Marsalis teamed with guitarist Eric Clapton and special guest Taj Mahal for two exciting evenings of blues, rock, and jazz. Last night, a special behind-the-scenes look at this collaboration was screened in theatres nationwide. As music organizations become more creative in their programs and venues, I believe you'll see more and more events such as this, blurring the lines of musical genres. Reaction to Licitra's Death Continue to Pour In
In the wake of the tragic death of tenor Salvatore Licitra, people the world over react to the news. Conductor Zubin Mehta says he is "devastated." Read his reaction here. The opera world has gone into mourning. Licitra's body is lying in state for two days at the Teatro Bellini in Catania. Reports are that, in accordance with his wishes, several of his organs have been given to those awaiting transplants.
