Yo Yo Ma is a Musician for the Ages

ONE AUDIO PIECE: AN INTERVIEW Pianist Lang Lang may be flashy, well-marketed, and able to hawk anything from wristwatchesto his own line of sneakers, but many musical shooting stars have blazed across the firmament over the years, only to burn out just as quickly. While only time will tell with Lang Lang, one musician whose flame seems to be inextinguishable is cellist Yo Yo Ma. In his 30-year career, he has given us incredible performances of the works you expect to hear from a classical cellist, while also continuing to allow his musical curiosity to lead him into collaborations which have occasionally raised some eyebrows. He has performed and recorded with a diverse collection of artists: Diana Krall, John Clayton, Bobby McFerrin, and Allison Krauss, to name a few. He has also traveled the Silk Road: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=To3W4U6IQfA He has played Carnegie Hall, signed CDs in record stores and retailers across the country, and spoken with announcers such as yours truly, giving of his time, talent, and personality to break down walls dividing musical styles and communicate his love of music to all who will listen. To speak with Yo Yo Ma is both exhilarating and nerve racking, until the conversation actually begins. Within seconds he has made you feel as though you have known each other for years, taking some tidbit about you that he has discovered in your contact information and making it relevant to your conversation. [audio:yo-yo-open.mp3] Yo Yo Ma has released over 75 recordings and been awarded 15 Grammys in his career.  How do you choose which recording should start your collection? If you just can't decide, you may need to look into Yo Yo Ma: 30 Years Outside The Box.
