Taxes in Wartime.The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have added more than $1 trillion to the budget deficit, but taxes have not increased since the wars began...in fact, the Bush tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003 lowered the tax rates for nearly all U.S. taxpayers. Now with a deficit reduction âsupercommitteeâ? beginning its work, some believe the commission should consider a special war tax as both a moral and fiscal responsibility.
