Tyler Thompson Joins WOSU 89.7 NPR News as Reporter

COLUMBUS, OHIO, FEBRUARY 28, 2022 – WOSU Public Media has hired Tyler Thompson as a reporter and on-air host for 89.7 NPR News. Thompson, originally from northeast Ohio, has spent the last three years working as a Morning Edition host and reporter at NPR member station KDLG Public Radio and reporter at the Bristol Bay Times Newspaper in Dillingham, Alaska.

“I’m thrilled to join a newsroom with long-established roots in Columbus and Central Ohio,” Thompson said. “I was born in Ohio, so the opportunity to tell my neighbors stories and to inform the many communities that we serve, is one that I relish.”

Thompson graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Journalism and Multimedia. During his time in Alaska, he was a regular contributor to Alaska Public Media statewide news, Alaska News Nightly, and KTOO state capital news network. He also published the Bristol Bay Fisheries Report, an annual summer fish report that provides contextual statistics, stories and industry perspectives for the largest salmon fishery in the world.

“Tyler has a broad and flexible skill set from audio and newscast production to in-field photo/video and reporting that will be a huge asset to the WOSU newsroom,” said Steve Brown, WOSU news managing editor.
