Matthew Rand Joins WOSU 89.7 NPR News as Reporter

COLUMBUS, OHIO, OCTOBER 11, 2021 – WOSU Public Media has hired Matthew Rand as a full-time newsroom reporter for 89.7 NPR News. Rand served as an interim producer during the pandemic for WOSU’s All Sides with Ann Fisher.

Rand worked at several television and radio stations in Kentucky where he gained skills as a reporter, anchor and multimedia journalist. He pitched and covered stories frequently picked up by CNN, CBS and AP that were shared with affiliates across the nation. His high-profile coverage includes issues and controversies surrounding Kentucky’s pension system and live coverage of President Donald Trump’s 2018 rally on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University. Rand’s work has been recognized numerous times by the Kentucky Associated Press Broadcasters Association. Originally from Cincinnati, Rand attended Morehead State where he studied broadcasting and journalism.

More people are listening to 89.7 NPR News than at any time in its history. WOSU continues to expand its digital presence and drew a record 4.8 million users to its website in 2020. These users recorded nine million page views and digital news content is the most-consumed portion.
