WOSU Hockey Talent

Herb Howenstine - Play-by-Play
Herb returns to the broadcast booth where he spent over 25 years calling sports for WOSU. He spent 15 seasons as the play-by-play voice of Ohio State women's basketball and men's baseball teams, and five seasons as the play-by-play voice of OSU Hockey, including the team's only trip to the Frozen Four in 1998.

After five years living in Texas, he returned to Columbus last Fall, and called OSU Hockey part-time for WOSU Radio, including the three-game finale at Northern Michigan in opening round of CCHA playoffs.

"I can't tell you how excited I am to be returning to WOSU as the Voice of the Hockey Buckeyes," said Herb. "Coach Markell and his staff are molding a very young, but very talented group of young men into an up-and-coming-power inside the CCHA. It should be a lot of fun to follow the Buckeyes this season. Mo (John Mowat) and I have developed a great chemistry over the years, and we are looking forward to our new 22 game (regular season) broadcast schedule. Go Bucks!"

John Mowat
John Mowat - Analysis
John Mowat begins his 12th season of expert analysis for Ohio State Hockey.

A native of Brantford, Ontario and a center for the Buckeyes from 1982-85, Mowat was part of two of the finest seasons in Ohio State history. He took part in the 26-win season in 1983 and a school record 30-win season in 1984. He finished his career with 17 goals and 30 assists for 47 points. He would then entertain a brief stint of playing hockey in Europe after college.

For the last 20 years, Mowat has been with Century Equipment, which distributes golf course maintenance equipment throughout the Midwest. He currently serves as the company’s sales manager. He has also been the president of the Ohio State Hockey Alumni Association since 1994 and is a past president of the Ohio Turf Grass Association, which raises money for turf grass research. Mowat resides in Dublin with his wife Amy, daughter Dylan and son John Jr.

Luke Pavlas
Luke Pavlas - Analysis

Luke Pavlas will provide analysis for some games.

Pavlas skated as a Buckeye center from 2000-2003. In 112 career games, Pavlas had 10 goals and 25 assists for 35 points, highlighted by 18 of them coming in his freshmen season of 2000. Pavlas was born in Texas, but grew up in Anchorage, Alaska.
