The links on this page lead you by way of familiar and comfortable paths—from early learning to learning beyond the classroom walls. Every year, WOSU benefits from the generosity of many people. Their reasons for giving vary as widely as their interests and financial circumstances. What all have in common is the desire to make WOSU a more vibrant institution – better able to serve the university, the community, and the state.

In addition to your annual support, your unique motivations, goals and financial circumstances may provide you with opportunities to make gifts that substantially impact WOSU’s ability to fulfill its mission – both now and in the future – and that are personally rewarding to you.

Major gifts may represent a significant increase of support from your annual membership, may be restricted for special projects or purposes and/or endowment, may be pledged over three to five years, may require a formal gift agreement, and may be planned through your estate.

You can learn more about major giving opportunities by clicking on Special Gifts, Endowment, and Planned Gifts, or by contacting:

Special Gifts

While WOSU continues to provide and strengthen a variety of annual services upon which the community relies, there are occasions when opportunities arise that are dynamic and that fall outside the scope of our annual operations. These opportunities require special investments on the part of WOSU, Ohio State, and you!

If you have specific interests in children’s literacy, arts and culture, civic engagement, or other causes. You can impact the community in these areas by partnering with WOSU with gifts designated to support special projects.

Endowment

Endowed funds may be established at The Ohio State University to benefit WOSU for a variety of reasons: to provide internships for students, to support WOSU’s programs and services, to honor or memorialize loved ones or simply to thank WOSU for the service it provides to the university and to the community. An endowment fund permanently enhances WOSU by providing stable, long-term support through investment of the principal in perpetuity and annually expending only a portion of the fund’s distributable income.

You can create an endowed fund or add to an existing endowed fund with an immediate gift, a three-to-five- year pledge or through your estate plans.

Minimum levels for individually named endowed funds at WOSU are:

  • General Manager Endowment $750,000
  • Broadcaster Endowment $500,000
  • Student Internship Endowment $50,000
  • Restricted Use Endowment $50,000

Planned Gifts

Thank you for your interest in planning a gift through your estate to support WOSU Public Media. Bequests, trusts, annuities, and other financial instruments that benefit you and WOSU are wonderful ways to provide for the future of your family as well as education, arts and culture and civic engagement in our community.

Of equal importance, carefully planned gifts to WOSU through your estate can help you realize your dream of what you want your legacy in the community to be – whether it is helping children to read through an endowment that supports children’s literacy programs or preserving our community’s culture and history for all of our citizens through funds for original programs.

As you consider making charitable gifts through your estate plans, you may want to visit Ohio State’s Creative Gift Planning, an excellent resource to help get you started – offering basic information including a Glossary of Terms. As with all web and public resources, it is not intended to replace the services of qualified professionals such as financial advisors or attorneys.

The Neil Legacy
Over 125 years ago, members of the Neil Family made 361 acres of prized farm land available for the establishment of the Ohio Agricultural & Mechanical College now known as The Ohio State University. The Neil Family’s exemplary generosity and leadership created a tradition of giving that over the years has propelled Ohio State to the forefront of higher education as a preeminent teaching and research institute.

Ohio State established The Neil Legacy to recognize and honor the distinguished group of alumni, faculty, staff, retirees, and other friends who have included the university in their estate plans.

WOSU Public Media is proud to be part of The Ohio State University. As such, your planned gift to WOSU may qualify for you in recognition in Ohio State’s Neil Legacy.
