FAQs

Q | Why did WOSU need space for a new Digital Media Center?
A | In order to further distinguish WOSU as a vital asset to central Ohio—an institution of excellence—we must move our programming and outreach services extensively into the communities we serve. The power of public broadcasting, after all, has always been located at the local level. Today, digital technology means more than acquiring the tools necessary to become a digital broadcaster with more channels and clearer pictures and sounds.  It means investing in our ability to impact our communities by expanding our services, building new collaborations, and increasing community outreach.

Q | Why are the WOSU studios at COSI?
A |
The digital media center serves as multimedia studios and community space for forums, debates, educational and business activities and other broadcast and non-broadcast activities.  As an integral part of the COSI experience for more than 500,000 annual visitors, WOSU@COSI is as open as possible to the community, giving children and parents the opportunity to witness television and radio professionals and students at work. Within the studio space are hands-on digital media and technology activities co-produced with COSI.

Q | Does only WOSU have access to the Digital Media Center?
A |
No, the Digital Media was conceived as a civic space for community forums, debates, educational activities and other broadcast and non-broadcast activities, WOSU@COSI is an excellent resource for the Downtown business and arts communities enabling them to utilize the space for meetings and multimedia productions.  Arts organizations benefit from added performance space and the increased ability of WOSU to link directly to theatres to record or broadcast live performances for radio and television.

Q | What is the operating relationship between WOSU and COSI?
A |
WOSU is a tenant in the building, operating the WOSU Digital Media Center’s nearly 12,000 square feet of space.
