WOSU Public Media

For more than 80 years, WOSU has been a part of the Central Ohio community. As the public broadcasting stations of The Ohio State University, WOSU-AM (NPR 820) began broadcasting in 1922 and was joined by WOSU-FM (Classical 89.7) in 1949.  The 1950s brought the “age of television” and the launch of WOSU-TV (34) in 1956.  Since that time, The WOSU Stations have expanded to include a television station in Portsmouth and FM stations in Coshocton, Mansfield, Marion and Portsmouth.

WOSU is affiliated nationally with NPR and PBS with production facilities located on Ohio State’s Columbus campus and serves as a gateway to nonprofit educational and cultural resources in the central Ohio community. Each week, 28,000 teachers and over 392,000 students receive our daily educational programming and services. WOSU-TV reaches an audience of nearly 500,000 viewers a week; WOSU-FM brings the greatest in classical music to the homes and offices of over 95,000 listeners; WOSU-AM challenges the thinking of more than 72,000 central Ohioans; and www.wosu.org draws more than 14,000 visitors a month to its pages.

Finally, WOSU stands committed to playing an active role in our community, contributing to and serving the various needs of Central Ohio. Despite changing technology and commercial media conglomerates, WOSU is local—locally licensed, managed and supported—and remains uniquely committed to serving our community.
