The mission of WOSU Public Media is to enrich lives across Ohio through programming and community services that educate, inform, entertain, and inspire. We celebrate our diverse citizens, embrace innovation, promote lifelong learning, and partner with those who share our passion for public service.

WOSU Public Television
 

WOSU TVWOSU Public Television is watched by over a half million Ohioans every week, with programming including "Antiques Roadshow," "NOVA," "Frontline," "PBS NewsHour," plus 64 hours of PBS Kids programming every week. WOSU produces Emmy award-winning local programming including "Columbus On The Record," "ArtZine," "In The Know," the highly-praised documentary series "Columbus Neighborhoods," and new initiatives such as WOSU television’s "University Place" series.

• WOSU Public Television includes three digital channels broadcast in Columbus, Portsmouth, and via a translator in Mansfield covering 23 Ohio counties:

  • - WOSU HD high definition channel of arts, culture, and news programming
  • - WOSU Ohio including state legislative and public affairs coverage
  • - WOSU Plus/Create is how-to and lifestyle programs and primetime PBS
  • - WOSU streams its local programming online at www.wosu.org

WOSU Public Radio


WOSU RadioIn 1922, WOSU became the first radio station in Columbus and among the first in the country to provide educational radio services. WOSU Public Radio now includes six stations providing all day news and classical music services, plus weekend bluegrass music. WOSU was named the #1 radio news operation in Ohio in 2011 for the second straight year by the Society for Professional Journalists.

• WOSU Public Radio includes digital multicast programming for those who listen on a HD Radio with primary stations in Columbus and others in service to several Ohio communities:

  • - WOSU 89.7 NPR News provides all-day news and information including local news and All Sides with Ann Fisher. 89.7 also programs bluegrass music on weekend nights. Primary national programming carried on 89.7 NPR News includes "Morning Edition," "All Things Considered," "Fresh Air," "Talk of the Nation," "Car Talk," "Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me," and news from the BBC.
  • - WOSA 101.1 is Classical 101 offering the only all-day classical music service in central Ohio with over 50 hours of local concerts and coverage of the performing arts. Primary national programming includes "Performance Today."
  • - WOSU provides regional stations in Marion 91.1, Mansfield 91.7, Coshocton 91.1, and Portsmouth 91.5, with Classical 101 as the primary service and a second channel of NPR news and information for HD Radio listeners.
  • - Anyone in the world can listen to WOSU radio online…and they do!

WOSU Lifelong Learning
 

Clifford at WOSU@COSIWOSU’s educational services span from early childhood to retirees. Our highly effective Ready to Learn project provides educational workshops to hundreds of child caregivers annually. WOSU assists teachers with professional development and digital learning content, including the WOSU/PBS Learning Media service. In 2012, WOSU is planning a new lifelong learning service for the boomer generation called Next Avenue.

WOSU Public Engagement


WOSU uses online services and public space at its WOSU@COSI studios to provide community engagement. WOSU@COSI is one of the most innovative space sharing collaborations in the country. The studios (available for rental) and production facilities are linked with exhibit space and enjoyed by over 500,000 visitors every year to the COSI Science Center in Downtown Columbus.

WOSU has focused its efforts on critical community issues such as the mortgage crisis, high school dropout, and immigration through a powerful mix of public service radio, television, online, social media and engagement.

WOSU Support
 

The largest single source of fiscal support for WOSU Public Media comes from its approximately 20,000 members. Memberships, program underwriting, major/planned giving and earned revenue amount to nearly 70 percent of annual direct revenue. Other funding is provided by state, federal, and University sources.
